This guide walks you through connecting the FreightPOP MCP Server to an AI client (Claude, ChatGPT) and confirming the connection works.

Prerequisites

  • An active FreightPOP account. If you don’t have one yet, contact sales to get started.
  • MCP access enabled. An admin needs to turn on the AI Accessibility toggle for your user, and for the company, before any AI client can connect. Ask your FreightPOP admin if you’re not sure whether this is on.

How to connect

The FreightPOP MCP Server uses OAuth 2.0 — the same secure login flow banks and enterprise apps use. You never share your password with the AI client.
1

Add the FreightPOP connector to your AI client

In Claude, FreightPOP is in the connector directory, so it is one click: add FreightPOP to Claude. For other AI clients, follow the client-specific setup guide.
2

Sign in through the OAuth popup

The first time your AI client calls a FreightPOP tool, a browser popup opens on the FreightPOP login page. Sign in with your normal FreightPOP credentials.
3

Approve the connection (one-time)

Review the requested permissions and click Approve. The popup closes automatically. You’ll only see this screen the first time — future sessions reuse the approval.
4

Confirmation

Your AI client will now display FreightPOP as a connected tool provider. You’re ready to start issuing commands.

First test prompt

Open a new chat in your AI client and try:
“How many LTL carriers do we have set up in FreightPOP?”
A successful answer confirms the connection and your permissions in one step. Ask for a count or a single category rather than the full list, since a mature account can have dozens of carrier accounts across parcel, LTL, truckload, air, and ocean. If you see an authentication error or nothing happens, jump to Troubleshooting.

Your first real lookup

Grab a tracking number, order number, or shipment ID from your own FreightPOP account, then ask:
“Where is order 82520261?”
Substitute your own number. Tracking numbers look like FRTPOP-2200807732, shipment IDs are plain digits, and order numbers are whatever your system uses. You do not need to say which kind it is. Once tracking works, try a quote:
“Quote 2 pallets, 400 lbs each, 48x40x48 inches, from Lake Forest, CA to Anaheim, CA.”
Give the pallet count, weight, and dimensions. Dimensions matter for anything larger than a parcel, and FreightPOP works out the freight classification for you, so there is no need to supply a freight class.
